A collection of twenty-four research papers on various aspects of the transfer of science from the West to the Muslim world throughout history. The introduction reviews some of the recent studies in this field; it is also an appraisal of the state of science in the classical period of the Ottoman State, which covered the greater part of the Muslim world at that time, and the first contacts with Western science.
